The New Zealand Medical Student Journal (NZMSJ) is a publication managed and edited by medical
students in New Zealand. It provides a platform for students to publish original research, review
articles, case reports, and reflections related to medical practice and education. The journal aims
to encourage medical students to engage in academic writing and research, promoting scholarly
communication and collaboration within the medical student community. It also serves as a valuable
resource for students to share their insights and contribute to the broader medical literature.
I was contracted to typeset the journal and undertook a comprehensive redesign to modernise its
appearance, improve overall organisation, and enhance the paper and print efficiency while
preserving the essence of the original design. Each issue involves typesetting, reformatting charts
and graphics, and creating new cover designs. This includes the use of stock imagery and bespoke
illustrations to complement the journal's content, ensuring a professional and visually appealing
publication.
